"Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable."

- William Pollard

I believe that, the only thing that is constant is change. After running numerous sessions on "Change Your Habits, Change Your World..." workshops, I had the opportunity to do more research and exposure (from the questions and sharing of participants during the sessions).

Also thanks to my coach and mentor, Dr. Peter Chee who constantly challenge me to be better.

And the result of the process, is "Habit Change 2.0". The overview of the model is as below:

Habit Change 2.0 model

It all starts with "WHY"; the Purpose, your intention, the end-in-mind, well-formed outcome that you want in your Life and / or Career... the purpose is the BIG PICTURE (your Vision of what is to come or the dream that you want to make it happen) that leads to your GOALS (according to author Alvin Ung of "Barefoot Leadership" - a good book to read, he mentioned that we can write our goals in pencil, so that we do not make a mess by crossing out what we have written; we can use the eraser to change our goals, as leaders, we know that "blessed are those who are flexible as they will never be bent out of shape!")

The "WHY" will then lead to the "WHAT";

PASSION - activities that we really enjoy doing that we are willing to do them without getting paid... and we get good at doing them as we do them often and perfect practicing as well (as what Malcolm Gladwell shared in his "Outliers" book, "10,000 hours" - where he shared about The Beatles and Bill Gates... and of course there are some who do not agree with his findings and sharing, as long as you enjoy what you are doing, you will be getting better at it...)

PLEASURE / PAIN - what attracts you (triggers) you to continue doing what you are doing repeatedly (habits)... actions that provides you the pleasure and making you want to do it more? Or triggers that is giving you pain and suffering when you do the activity? Towards pleasure or away from pain... these two can be the triggers that help you to shape your habits.

I have shared some ideas on triggers from our 5 Senses, environment, cravings from our neuro-chemicals (E.D.S.O) in my earlier blogs (please read them if you have the time or feel free to do your own research).

Once you have determined and know how to utilize the triggers to your advantage, then comes the ACTION - the "HOW" part...

PEOPLE - imagine that you are a goose that wants to fly to the south during winter, you can definitely fly fast if you fly alone but you may not fly that far... if you want to fly far, you need to have a team of geese... what I am trying to illustrate here is that, when you are "fighting" the habits (that is not helping you in your life or career), you will need help from those around you.

You can work as a team in synergy; your family members, your coaches, mentors, accountability partners, your team members... they can help you to make your journey to change your habits easier and more fulfilling.

In this blog, I will only share the summary, success stories, cases... I will share them another day and if you have any great stories to share, please e-mail or connect with me. I will be more than happy to feature your stories in my blog and future books.

Action needs consistency to obtain results; how can we make the action as part of our daily deliberate actions - the PROCESS that will run automatically and subconsciously with the least effort?

We can make use of technologies; your smart phone, tablets, devices, gadgets - whichever that you use the most and able to assist you to action consistently. There are some of us, who prefer the basic tech; paper and pen or post-in notes... as long as the tools work for you as part of your daily process.

There is always the human factor; our discipline in prioritizing the action that will help us to be better and perfect practicing the habits that add value to our success in life and career.

Please read my other blogs for methods and tips on sticking to habits in getting results.

Know your "WHY", with the "WHAT" and "HOW"... I trust, you are more informed - the next step will be for you to perfect practice, "MINDFULNESS" being aware to do what you need to do to achieve RESULTS and BREAKTHROUGH... sustaining what you have worked hard for PERMANENCE.

Apart from "MINDFULNESS", there are some models that we have to understand and internalize to make them as part of our daily habits to be a leader in achieving the results; life and career that we are compelled to... I believe that we are able to get what we want... as long as we keep going and doing what adds value to us.

"I am not the richest, smartest or most talented person in the world, but I succeed because I keep going and going and going."

- Sylvester Stallone
